Chisapani Nagarkot Hike 3 Days

Overview

If you’re short on time but still want a real trekking experience near Kathmandu, the Chisapani Nagarkot Trek is one of the best short hikes in Nepal. In just 2–3 days, you go from city life to peaceful forests, local villages, and wide Himalayan views—without needing flights or long travel days.

The journey begins with a short drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, which lies inside the Shivapuri National Park. From here, the trail takes you through dense forests, waterfalls, and fresh mountain air. You’ll pass through traditional Tamang villages like Mulkharka, where you can experience local culture and simple mountain life.

The first major stop is Chisapani, a peaceful hilltop known for its sunrise views and wide Himalayan panorama. On a clear day, you can see peaks from Langtang to Ganesh Himal and beyond.

From Chisapani, the trek continues toward Nagarkot, one of the most famous viewpoints near Kathmandu. The trail is longer but rewarding, passing through forests, small settlements, and ridgelines. Nagarkot is especially popular for its sunrise and sunset views, and on very clear days, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Everest.

The trek ends with a scenic drive back to Kathmandu, with optional visits to cultural sites like Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Changu Narayan Temple, adding a cultural touch to your adventure.

This trek is perfect for beginners, families, or anyone who wants a short and easy Himalayan experience with a mix of nature, culture, and mountain views.

In simple terms: short trek, big views, zero hassle.

Itinerary

Your adventure begins with a short and easy drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal—just about an hour, but it already feels like you’ve left the city behind. From here, your trek starts inside the peaceful Shivapuri National Park.

As you walk, you’ll pass through cool forests, flowing streams, and fresh mountain air that instantly resets your mood. The trail gradually climbs through beautiful landscapes and takes you to Mulkharka, a traditional Tamang village where you can see authentic local life up close.

From here, the trail continues through dense oak and rhododendron forests. If you’re trekking in spring, this section turns into a natural flower show. After around 5 hours of walking, you reach Chisapani—a quiet hilltop perfect for relaxing after your first day.

In the evening, enjoy the peaceful surroundings and get ready for an amazing sunrise the next morning.

Overnight: Lodge in Chisapani

Wake up early—this is one of the best moments of the entire trip. As the sun rises, the Himalayan range slowly lights up in front of you. On clear days, you’ll see peaks stretching from Langtang to Ganesh Himal and beyond.

After breakfast, get ready for the most rewarding trekking day. Today’s trail takes you through forests, ridges, and small settlements as you make your way toward Nagarkot. The walk is longer (around 7–8 hours), but it’s filled with changing landscapes and peaceful trails.

You’ll pass Chauki Bhanjyang along the way, a great spot to take a break and enjoy lunch. As you continue, the trail slowly opens up, leading you to Nagarkot—one of the most famous viewpoints near Kathmandu.

Once you arrive, relax and enjoy the sunset. The golden light over the mountains is something you don’t want to miss. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Mount Everest.

Overnight: Hotel in Nagarkot

Wake up early again (yes, it’s worth it). Head to the viewpoint tower or simply enjoy the sunrise from your hotel. Watching the first light hit the Himalayas is the perfect way to end your trek.

After breakfast, you’ll drive back to Kathmandu—but the experience isn’t over yet. On the way, you’ll visit the historic Bhaktapur Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with ancient temples, courtyards, and traditional Newari culture.

You’ll also stop at the peaceful Changu Narayan Temple, one of the oldest temples in Nepal, rich in history and architecture.

After exploring, you’ll return to Kathmandu. If you still have energy, you can head to Thamel in the evening for food, shopping, or just to celebrate your short but unforgettable trek.
