Bardia National Park in far-western Nepal is the country’s largest lowland park and one of the best places in Asia to see a wild Bengal tiger. It is far less visited than Chitwan, so safaris feel wild and quiet. Besides tigers, the park shelters wild elephants, greater one-horned rhinos, gharial crocodiles, Gangetic dolphins in the Karnali and over 400 bird species.

One-hour flight to Nepalgunj and a 2.5–3 hour drive to Thakurdwara on the park’s edge. Afternoon Tharu village walk and a visit to the crocodile breeding centre.
